Climbers & Wall Shrubs

The Sma` Shot garden is surrounded by high walls. I chose the following climbers to provide long season colour and planted to suit the aspect.
Ceanothus "Gloire de Versaille": Introduced in the mid 19th Century. Powder blue flowers late summer 6 ft. Sun
Ceanothus "Marie Simone": Another very pretty Californian Lilac, this time with pale pink flowers in summer 6 ft. Sun
Jasminum officinale: The common ,white Jessamine. Clouds of fragrant tubular flowers in summer. 20 ft. Sun
Hydrangea petiolaris: White Lace-cap flowers mid-late summer. Shade
Hedera helix "Hibernica": Shade
Clematis tangutica : Small yellow bells. Late season. Shade 12 ft
Clematis alpina: Small nodding blue flowers. Early season Shade.12 ft
Clematis Nelly Moser: Pale pink with deeper pink stripe. Early season. Semi-shade 12 ft
Clematis "Duchess of Edinburgh": Double white blooms. Early season Semi-shade. 10 ft
Clematis jackmanii: Rich. violet. Late season. Semi-shade. 12 ft
Clematis montana: Small white blooms. Early summer 30 ft.
Clematis "Elsa Spath" Pale purple Mid- late season. Semi-shade. 12 ft
Arbutus unedo: The Killarney Strawberry tree.White Lily of the Valley type blooms and round scarlet fruit simultaneously in late autumn. 10 ft.
Lonicera periclymenum "Belgica" : Early Dutch honeysuckle. Cultivated since 17th century. Shade. 20 ft
Lonicera japonica repens The Japanese woodbine .Introduced 1806 20 ft


Shrubs.

Artemisia arboritanum: Lad`s love. Aromatic grey foliage. Sprigs were placed in the family prayer books to "Sweeten the air" on the journey to church. Grown since 16th Century. Sun. 4 ft tall.
Buxus sempervirens: Common box. The old- time favourite evergreen topiary / hedge plant
Cytisus x kewensis. Broom. Masses of cream flowers in early summer. Semi prostrate. Sun 3 ft
Cytisus purpureus. A pretty dwarf purple broom. Sun 2 ft

Daphne mezureum. The sweet scented Mezereon. Purple blooms in spring.Semi-shade 3 ft
Hydrangea "La France": The hortensia. Mid blue in acid soil, deep pink in alkaline.Shade. 4ft.
Lavandula angustifolia "Vera": Dutch Lavender. Aromatic foliage and lavender-blue flowers. sun 3 ft
Lavandula angustifolia "Rosea":Aromatic foliage and pink flowers. Sun 2 ft.
Rosmarinus officinalis: Common Rosemary. Aromatic foliage and pale blue flowers. Sun. 3 ft.
Syringia vulgaris "Souvenir de Louis Spaeth": Lilac. Introduced 1883 Single red blooms early summer. Semi -shade. 12 ft
