February 10, 2006, Newsletter Issue #99: Bee Balm

Tip of the Week

Bee Balm or Monarda is an excellent native perennial that has excellent flowers. Growing to 4-5 feet tall this vigorous plant is one of the best flowering natives. My favorite is ŽJacob ClineŽ which is mildew-proof. This plant also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and the crushed leaves help eliminate the pain from bee stings. This plant should be planted in full sun to light shade.
